SHEARWAVE UT COMPETITION [SHEARWAVE SHOWDOWN]


iNDT is excited to announce a UT Shearwave competition. As our name suggests, NDT community is very special to us. At iNDT we feel proud of the skills of any good technician that we come across, whether trained by us or elsewhere. This competition is our way of saying “Thank You” for taking your craft seriously. Additionally you get the bragging rights to have participated in this unique competition. If you happen to win any of the top three handsome awards, all the more better. Wish you all the best.

Eligibility: Shearwave UT Level II  with 3+ Year’s Experience. Not open for Level III candidates.

NOTE: THIS COMPETITION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. ANY APPROVALS FROM YOUR EMPLOYER TO PARTICIPATE, IF NEEDED, ARE THE PARTICIPANT’S RESPONSIBILITY.

Step 1: Register for the Competition by clicking the link “here”.

Step 2: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in setting up and calibrating their equipment on an IIW Type 2 Block. Bean Exit Point, Angle and Time Base Calibration must be demonstrated in 10 minutes to proceed to next step.

Step 3: 12 inch long plate with a Butt joint must be scanned and discontinuities reported in 30 minutes. EValuation as per AWS D1.5, Table 6.3. Discontinuities should be within L+/-½ in., H+/-¼ in., dB+/-2dB. All Class A, B, and C discontinuities shall be reported. Any false positives shall disqualify you for the next step.

Step 4: 12 inch long plate with a T joint must be scanned and discontinuities reported in 45 minutes. EValuation as per AWS D1.5, Table 6.3. Discontinuities should be within L+/-½ in., H+/-¼ in., dB+/-2dB. All Class A, B, and C discontinuities shall be reported. Any false positives shall disqualify you for the next step.

Step 5: 12 to 18 inch plate with an unknown joint must be scanned and discontinuities reported in 120 minutes. EValuation as per AWS D1.5, Table 6.3. Discontinuities should be within L+/-½ in., H+/-¼ in., dB+/-2dB. All Class A, B, and C discontinuities shall be reported. The first candidate to report all the discontinuities accurately shall win the competition.
